AN EAST TENNESSEE AMBER ALERT HAS BEEN ISSUED
This is an update to the East Tennessee AMBER Alert which was issued on June 23, 2015 for the Surgoinsville Police Department for 14-year old Hayleigh Wilson. Hayleigh left her residence in Surgoinsville on the night of June 22, 2015 in the company of 41-year old Benjamin “Ben” Shook. Hayleigh and Shook were positively identified in a Wal Mart surveillance video in Marion, North Carolina in the early morning hours of June 23rd. They were captured on video surveillance later on the 23rd between the hours of 4-5 p.m. at the Exxon station on Highway 16 in Sugar Grove, Virginia. They received a ride from unsuspecting citizens up Highway 16 and were dropped off next to Raccoon Branch Campground. They were seen twice on Wednesday, June 24th in the area of Flat Ridge Road in Sugar Grove. The vehicle previously listed on the AMBER Alert was recovered in nearby Grayson County Virginia. It is believed that Shook and Hayleigh may still be in the area of Smyth County Virginia. Shook has active warrants and is an absconder from the sex offender registry in Georgia, his previous charges were for child molestation.
