Drug Investigation Division

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Drug Investigation Division (DID) was created in 1998, following a report that indicated 80% of the state's crimes were drug related. At the time, there was no single agency that specialized in combating illegal drugs in the state of Tennessee. This division is responsible for investigating and assisting in the prosecution of crimes involving controlled substances, narcotics and other illegal drugs. In order to complete its mission, the division has original jurisdiction in opening illegal drug cases.

Special Agents assigned to the Drug Investigation Division cooperate with local, state, and especially federal law enforcement agencies such as the Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Tennessee’s United States Attorney’s offices. At any given time, the Drug Investigation Division has hundreds of active cases open and consistently makes a very large number of arrests every year. DID agents often have leadership roles in programs integral to the state’s drug enforcement community.
